Good News

Mom's in town, so I had a chance to bring in some recycling. I netted a sweet $3.25, and my sister Ellen pointed out that, indeed, my Financial Success Plan was on track and yielding significant results.

Groundbreaking Financial Security Plan

Here is my Seven Point Plan to achieving financial strength, security, and independence. Follow it closely, and just wait for the outstanding results. That’s what I’m doing:

  1. Enter the prime earning years of your life.
  2. Leave your job and volunteer on an upstart, underdog Presidential campaign.
  3. Establish a second residence in another state and incur thousands of dollars in expenses in order to accept a full time volunteer position on the campaign.
  4. When push is truly coming to shove, and it looks like you’ll have to leave the campaign, accept a full time, paid position at approximately 20% of your previous annual income. Note with grim, giddy humor that you used to pay more in taxes than your current wages.
  5. Arrange for your spouse to give birth to twins.
  6. Become a stay-at-home Dad.
  7. Wait for the sweet stream of security and wealth to rush to your door.

I don't remember how I came across this, but it's a very funny and poignant first-person account of Mr. Benchley's move to NYC and his attempts to build a music career, with forays into his life in general. Read one, and I think you'll find yourself reading them all. UPDATE: This serial was actually fiction, and has now been published in novel form.
